I was raised in an Air Force family, with a very Southern upbringing. I called my mother “ma’am” and my father “sir.” For a long time, I wasn’t sure whether that was a military thing or a Southern thing. It didn’t really matter.
I was also raised thinking that I was a good Christian because I did the right things … then came college.
There, I joined a Bible study group, and it took about two weeks for me to realize that I was in WAY over my head. I began reading the Bible to catch up to what these other guys knew, and learned that I was even farther behind. That’s when I really learned what the Bible said.
It was about two years later that I had a new crisis of faith — my politics and my faith were speaking against each other, and I knew it. I had to decide whether I was a part of the Republican “Religious Right” or part of the religiously right. God had to come ahead of Reagan, so I’ve left my former fold.
I don’t do partisan. My loyalty in politics is to ideas, to beliefs, and to principles. If you believe and think what I do, I’m with you. If you don’t, then I’m not. I don’t follow any person blindly anymore. I know that we’re all flawed.
I am a fan of country, classical, and contemporary Christian music. My especial favorites are Rich Mullins, Andrew Peterson, and Mark Schultz. The name of the blog actually comes from a Lionel Cartwright song, about the fact that he remains a true believer in love.
I believe in my principles. I believe that they’re right. There are people with whom I agree for a while, but most often we part ways on other issues … which is fine with me.
I hope that you enjoy this blog, and I hope to have some interesting conversations.
Blessings.

Thanks for putting ChildVoice Intl. on your website. I spent 3 months conducting interviews with women in Uganda this past summer through ChildVoice. My research partner Brittany and I are committed to continuing being a ‘voice’ for these ‘voiceless’ women and children, (all those affected by the war).
I am at this very moment writing up a grant proposal for ChildVoice for an assignment I have taken on through my University. I was researching the web for Conrads resume’ as I need this for the proposal – this is how I found your website.
It is true. After being there, living with the refugees in their huts, holding the precious “bush babys”, giving the mothers hugs and holding them, now that I am home, it is nearly impossible to talk about them and their situations without tears in my eyes as well. If you’d like I’d be happy to send you a copy of a 25 minute DVD I created upon my return home to America. Just send me an email with your address and I’d be honored to share this with you. Thanks, and blessings on you.

Thank you, Wickle, for adding “Necessary Therapy” to your blogroll. If I should, for some reason, cease to be a Huckabee supporter, I will notify you immediately so you can delete me from the roll.
Thanks again.

No need to worry … not all the blogroll is Huckabee supporters.
November 29, 2007 at 7:10 pm
Hey, Wickle. Thanks for adding me to your blogroll!!! I just saw it.
I just wanted to thank you for your good comments, and for taking the time to read my diatribes! Looking at your bio, I can appreciate your stance. Mine is quite similar. I was in the Air Force, too. (so was my wife, ten years after)

Wickle,
Thank you, kindly.
Henry Williamson
I won’t be offended when you delete this.
November 30, 2007 at 2:20 am
Thanks Wickle for adding me…
And Pistol Pete – wickle is cool… he won’t delete you if you don’t support Huckabee, he added me and I am not a supporter.
November 30, 2007 at 2:23 am
Mr. Williamson – I’m not sure what your problem is.
You would not respond to me. You swore at me. You asked me to remove a post, and I did so as a courtesy. If at any time you become interested in actually having a conversation, please return.
I’m not interested in demagoguery. And, yes, I will delete it. My blog is not a place for Ron Paul rants. I welcome pro-Ron Paul posts by responsible posters.
I invite you to check out Tam’s work at barethoughts.com to see what your camp should be doing.
November 30, 2007 at 2:38 am
Thank you Wickle… I am truelly touched by your kind words.
November 30, 2007 at 3:02 pm
I thanked you above for removing that post. I also apologized to you when I asked you to remove it. I was and am sorry. I was and am thankful you removed the posting.

And a Rich Mullins fan, too! Awesome. The only musician reviewed so far on my almost year old blog. I can’t say enough about that man.

Hello Wickle:
I enjoy visiting your blog.
Perhaps you can help the newbie with something: how do you place the abortion ticker on your site? I have no clue but I would like to add it.
Thanks and all the best.

Hi Wickle,
I just wanted to let you know that I have chosen to promote this blog, “A True Believer’s Weblog,” in the “Recommendations” section of my new independent print magazine, U. S. Politics. I don’t read many blogs and don’t spend a lot of time on them (not even on my own), but I think yours is one of the best on the Internet.

Hi Wickle,

I really enjoy reading your blog and have a great time following it. Thank you for taking the time to let your thoughts be known! I am also a huckabee supporter (I hope he runs in 2012).. I am also a Christian and love reading your blog and your friend’s blogs.
I would love to add you to our blogroll.. Would you be so kind as to add us to yours as well?
Many of our HR blogger friends are already listed on your blogroll and I believe our readers would benefit
from both of our viewpoints and would love to know about both of our blogs.
The URL is http://www.effortlesshr.com/blog/ , the name is “Effortless HR Blog”.
Upon your reply, we will add a link to your site as well.
Thanks so much for your time, enjoy the weekend!

[...] Wickle comes from a southern Air Force family and is a Christian who doesn’t “do partisan.” Although “not a supporter of the Republican candidate,” s/he devoted a post two months ago to non-smear strategies for defeating Obama (thanks, Ann Raber): The best thing that people can do if they want to beat Sen. Obama at this point is make sure that they don’t do anything that looks like a baseless smear. Don’t get paranoid. [...]

Even though we don’t agree on everything, you are one of the WPPBA bloggers who remains consistently reasonable and thoughtful in your arguments. You should know by now you’re on my blogroll.

Wickle,
I didn’t see a contact form, so I will put this here. I have purchased my own domain and my blog will be directed there. The new address is below.

Nicely done in here, Wickle. Stay true.

When I googled “speaking for God”, I got your site. What I try to do is speak (encouragement) for God at my site, http://www.christiancommentary.com. I agree with you there are excesses that make me cringe. A whole nother part of speaking for God, though, is speaking His Word into situations…declaring. Powerful stuff.

What do you know about that? We’re practically kin. I retired from the Air Force, my dad and step-dad both retired from the Air Force, and one of my former pastors retired from the Air Force. My wife and I are also both native Floridians (there’s not very many of us) who now live in central Florida.
I’ve seen you comment on Larry’s My Take blog a number of times.
