From KWWL :
IOWA CITY (KWWL) – Choices Medical Clinic is opening its doors next month on South Gilbert Street in Iowa City, just a mile from the Emma Goldman Clinic.
Choices, perhaps not surprisingly, is a pro-life-oriented crisis pregnancy center. Its function is to help women in crisis pregnancy situations. If you read a little further in the article, you’ll find that people are already protesting outside the future clinic.
A few observations:
As I’ve said over and over again … Try to convince me that there’s no such thing as being pro-abortion, and that the pro-choice crowd just wants women to be able to make their own decisions. It looks to me like the University of Iowa Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance has a problem with anyone talking about non-abortion options.
Looking for a dishonest argument? Check this one out:
“We just don’t want any women to come here with the idea that they’re getting a full comprehensive education about their rights.”
Compare this, if you will, to pro-choicers’ reactions when any state takes up measures to require that women be informed about the pain unborn babies experience, or about fetal development; or that women should need to see an ultrasound and note the fetal heartbeat before having an abortion.
In those cases, of course, pro-lifers are accused of thinking that women are too stupid to have thought about these things. Now, strangely enough, the presence of a pro-life oriented clinic is going to be enough to cause women to become so stupid that they’re easily-manipulated? They’re going to become unaware of the “right” to an abortion?
The protestor needs to bring that argument back to the people who wrote her talking points for a redo.
The protestors are apparently insisting that Choices will not offer complete-enough information. Why, I suspect, will their argument not be the same when an ultrasound law or developmental-awareness disclosure is discussed?
Moreover, let’s wander down into the comments … “A Parent” complains about the claim to have medical staff at Choices. Leaving aside the fact that s/he has no actual information, has anyone looked into the medical credentials at abortion clinics?
Actually, Christina does it constantly at Real Choice, and so I’ll link to one of her many, many examples. (Alright, so that’s more than one.)
I would argue that there is something very seriously wrong with a person who would get angry at other people for trying to save lives.

Great post, wickle! Please see my post on abortion at C4C in the December 29, 2007 thread: “This Is What Atheism Does”. Please comment at C4C. I believe it’s vital for us to begin now to demonstrate a united front between and among the Christian blogs. Scienceblogs.com employs that tact; why not us?

I saw a clip on the news of your clinic being protested, no doubt by people that preach tolerance. I think the title of the clinic is awesome! People seem to like the word choice, so let’s use it too, only with the preferred choice being life, not death, for the innocent unborn child.
Keep up the good work and I hope to find out more about what you are doing!
Thanks,
Harry

Harry, I appreciate the sentiment, but … just so you know … I have nothing to do with the Choices Clinic.
