If only someone had stopped

This morning, I was dropping my wife at work and driving home. “The Exchange” on NPR was going to be about the rise of India as an international power, and I just wasn’t that interested. Maybe I’ll catch the replay tonight.

I turned on WBZ, the CBS radio station at 1030 AM. What I heard was that a woman had been killed at the MBTA escalator. Rev. Larry Fitzpatrick, his son, and two another women tried to save the woman, who was being strangled by her scarf, caught in the equipment. Read the rest of this entry »

Okay, fine … I’ll talk about Limbaugh

I really didn’t want to.

I don’t care for Rush Limbaugh. I don’t particularly care about Rush Limbaugh. I listen to his show now and then, mostly so that when I criticize him I’m not vulnerable to the “you don’t really listen to him” charge.

I know what I’m saying when I criticize him, because I do listen to him. I put in almost 10 hours this week with his show on. I’d kind of like a medal, actually.

“Kiss” by Ted Dekker and Erin Healy

Before I say anything else about this book … I greatly enjoyed Ted Dekker’s Circle trilogy, and do intend to read some of his other books.

Reading Kiss, though, was pretty much a painful experience.

The book is supposed to be suspenseful, but I had all of the bad guys pegged from their first appearance. The book promises non-stop excitement, but it’s about 100 pages longer than it needs to be, and feels longer than it is. To be honest, a lot of the middle feels like filler put in the book just so that it would be at least 300 pages long. Read the rest of this entry »
