An open letter to Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH)

(Sen. Gregg has received a great many letters from me over the past few years, running about 50-50 between positive and negative. This is the first one I’ve made open.)

Sen. Gregg,

I hadn’t yet finished writing a letter to you regarding your acceptance of the position as Pres. Obama’s Secretary of Commerce. I hadn’t decided how I felt about it.

Part of me thought that you were willing to take the position just so that you wouldn’t have to face another re-election bid. Considering how much NH has turned blue over the last few elections, it doesn’t look good, after all.

Now, however, I commend completely your decision to withdraw. I am pleased to see that you chose to take a stand over the fact that you disagree with Pres. Obama on commerce policy, that you disapprove of the reassignment of the Census, and that you disapprove of the stimulus bill and how it was marketed.

This is why I have supported you over the years, and why I look forward to doing so in the future. You are, whether I agree or disagree with you at times, a statesman of good character. I remain proud to call you my Senator, and I’m glad that you’ll be around with us for a while longer, at least.

    Way to go, Sen. Gregg!

Twenty-four days saved George W. Bush from running up five trillion dollars of government debt.

The latest posting on the Department of the Treasury website shows the National Debt just hit $10.759-trillion dollars. And that $5-trillion and change more than it was on the day Pres. Bush took office on Jan. 20, 2001.

Even so, Mr. Bush ran up the biggest increase in the National Debt of any American president. The Debt was $5.727-trillion on his first day in the White House. And on the day he left, it was $10.626-trillion. That means the Debt increased by $4.899-trillion on his watch. Some would round it off to $5-trillion – but that wouldn’t be fair. He was saved from five trillion dollar infamy by $101-billion.

But watch for the National Debt to start shooting up again once the $879-brillion economic stimulus bill is signed into law next week.

So far, the National Debt has increased $133-billion since the day Barack Obama became President. That averages out to $5.3-billion a day. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the federal deficit this year will hit an all-time high of $1.2-trillion – and that doesn’t include the stimulus bill.

At the moment, the statutory ceiling on the National Debt is $11.3-trillion. It will clearly have to be raised soon.

  3. Ted Says:

Obama’s stealing the census from Congress has suddenly awakened and enraged the Republicans. Maybe this will arouse them as well to challenge Obama for stealing the Presidency itself. They surely know he is not an Article 2 “natural born citizen” (which is more than merely being a 14th Amendment “citizen”) by virtue of either Obama’s birth to a dad of Kenyan/British citizenship or birth in Kenya itself — as manifested by his unwillingness to supply his long form birth certificate now under seal.

  4. wickle Says:

Ted, way to take a reasonable issue and try to sound insane.

President Obama is President. He didn’t steal the White House, whether you like it or not. The reason the Supreme Court refuses to hear the cases launched by the nutcases is that they have better things to do.

Jeff, I’m not sure how this relates to the post, but thanks for the information. I’ll leave it, anyway.

    Jennifer, thanks!

  5. Dominique Says:

Wickle – I respectfully disagree with your comment to Ted. I think Obama is indeed an impostor. If not, why is he now allowing his lawyers to go after Keyes and others monetarily? If he has nothing to hide, then why not just show the dang birth certificate and answer whatever questions necessary to resolve this issue. He is, after all, the “transparent” President.

  6. wickle Says:

Yes, Dominique, I knew you felt that way, and I’d very carefully avoided commenting on it over an AUP2. But since you brought it up here …

He has already released the appropriate documentation. His birth certificate has been released, the State of Hawaii has confirmed that it was legit and that he was born in their state. The certificate, after a bunch of people claimed it to be forged, was examined. Actual documentary experts have claimed it to be legitimate after looking at the real piece of paper (unlike John Corsi, who looked at it online and said that his experts decided it was faked based on the scan … hardly good detective work, eh?).

Frankly, if someone were trying to smear me the way Dr. Keyes, et. al. are doing, I’d be perfectly willing to hit them financially, too. Alan Keyes seems to have gone insane sometime about the time he lost the Senate race to Obama — as much as I liked him in 1996, the man is loopy now. Phillip Berg is a 9-11 Truther. John Corsi, between Presidential campaigns, is known for his anti-Catholic conspiracy theories.

I don’t really know or care about the story … These people have been out making noise for too long, and if he’s suing them for slander, that’s his right.

    I’ll reverse the question –

    1) If this issue had legs, why didn’t Hillary Clinton use it in the campaign? Since when have the Clintons been known for restraint?

    2) Why is there not a single member of the Supreme Court interested in hearing these cases? Is Antonin Scalia now some kind of leftist agent? Clarence Thomas? John Roberts?

    3) For that matter, why is NO ONE picking up on this, except a few folks on the fringes? Philip Berg is a 9-11 Truther who’s now turned his attention on Obama. The Mukasey Justice Dept. could have simply ended the Democratic Presidential run very abruptly, with little chance for the Dems to recover, had they been so inclined.

    http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/born_in_the_usa.html

In order for this to be true, we would have to have a conspiracy here including officials dating back to before Obama was born (in order to cover the generation of a birth certificate and newspaper announcement) and currently including the leadership of both major political parties, all nine Supreme Court justices, judges at all other levels, and all manner of Justice, State, Homeland Security, and other officials in the federal and Hawaiian government.

All this … for what? What is Obama doing that no other Lefty could? Why bother with this conspiracy-since-before-he-was-born?

All that, or I could believe the legitimacy of the document that we’ve seen. I’m willing to believe a lot of things, and certainly I’m cynical about the integrity of government officials, but I need some reason to buy in.

So, here goes: What is one reason to believe that he IS a fraud?
