Prayers for Steven Curtis Chapman

Tonight at rehearsal, our worship minister mentioned the tragedy that struck the family of singer Steven Curtis Chapman. His teenage son struck and killed his 5-year-old daughter with the family car.

As my minister said, famous people aren’t just famous, they’re also people. This has to be an unbelievably difficult time for the family, and I ask everyone who is so inclined to pray for the family, and especially for the young man who was driving. I can’t imagine the conflict of emotions that must be raging in each member of the Chapman family right now, but I know that it’s difficult just to keep going. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers.

Steven Curtis Chapman was the first Contemporary Christian Music singer whose music I got to know well, and I have bought more copies of his “More To This Life” album than any other album (given as gifts to many different people, and I wore out two cassettes before I got it on CD … so that’s three copies for myself!). His work for adopting babies from China is an amazing blessing, and his own life is an inspiration. However, right now he’s a person going through a time that I wouldn’t wish on anyone.

I ask that God pour out His grace and His love on this family in their time of desperate need, and show His healing to their hearts in a way that none of us can imagine.

I’m so sorry to hear about this, and I will keep the Chapman family in my prayers.

A similar tragedy happens in the middle of the film Bella. This is a great pro-life movie, by the way, in case you haven’t heard about it or seen it.
