What did she mean to say?
March 26, 2008 — wickleBy now, you’ve probably heard about Hillary Clinton’s story that she went to Kosovo under sniper fire, and had to duck as she ran into the vehicles. Her welcoming festivities were canceled as the greeters had to move inside to be safe.
It’s a fairly compelling story … and, like such compelling stories as Treasure Island, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and The Island of Dr. Moreau, it’s fiction.
This is another one of those random things that politicians like to say. and I’ve heard people making excuses for it. I’ve heard people saying that this, finally, is the thing to destroy her campaign (which is interesting, since Obama was declared destroyed by the same people last week … and some of them declared John McCain done last year, so I guess we’re not going to have a President next year …).
Hillary Clinton, of course, says that she misspoke.
I understand misspeaking. Yesterday, at the pediatrician’s office, I tried to check in at the front desk and said we were there for Amy. The thing is, Amy is my wife’s name, not my daughter’s. I misspoke.
But I’m trying to figure out what Sen. Clinton was trying to say when she said that she had to run for the vehicles, ducking to avoid sniper fire.
Her story is a bit detailed for having misspoken. It’s more akin to me telling the receptionist that I was there for the appointment for Amy, who was born on [Amy's birthdate] in New Jersey and whom I married on May 7, 2006. It moves beyond misspeaking into not knowing what I’m talking about!
Ah, well …
Ultimately, this is probably one of those things that doesn’t matter. Sure, I find it telling … but I’ve known that Hillary Clinton had integrity issues for years now. The Right-wing radio hosts are up in arms, but just how much support do you think Clinton was counting on from the Limbaugh and Hannity audience?
I just find it amusing … she “misspoke.”
I just want to know … what did she mean to say?

Haha, exactly. What she meant to say was, “It was a lovely day, and I met a cute, Bosnian girl as I walked along the tarmac”???

Yes, I guess there’s a subtle difference between the two.

To be fair, the little girl’s poem was pretty awful.

Funny, Kip … I guess I don’t know the poem to be able to comment on it, but if the poem was really bad enough to consider it the same as life-threatening sniper fire, then I recant.
Are you suggesting that the little girl was a Vogon?
(And two points to anyone who gets that reference without googling it … Tam, I’m serving this one up for you, wherever you are!)
