Not that they particularly matter anymore …
Remember all the people who said that Gov. Huckabee was just trying to play the spoiler to knock out Gov. Romney and Sen. McCain would win the nomination?
Seems like they forgot that deal, huh?
Could he be secretly working with John McCain to hold back Mitt Romney? It seems highly possible. The evidence of this secret deal is that Mike Huckabee attacks Mitt Romney at every opportunity
That quote is taken from here.
Look through the comments on this post.
Sean Hannity loved to talk about this deal (which he said was “obvious”; of course, “obvious” is a word used by Sean Hannity to describe many of his delusions).
Some genius came up with the idea that Gov. Huckabee’s campaign was something other than a Presidential run, and that he was trying to run interference for Sen. McCain. I can’t even tell you how many times I heard that Gov. Huckabee just wanted to take out Gov. Romney and get himself a VP seat.
Over and over again, there was this talk. And, yet, here we are. I suppose these people now think that Gov. Huckabee is just in it to keep Ambassador Alan Keyes at bay?
Of course, there is precious little accountability. Commentators who threw this charge around will simply ignore it, and readers, viewers, and listeners will just move on and pretend that the incidents never happened.

Wickle,
It’s very clear, there is no accountability when it comes to slamming Mike Huckabee. They just say what they want, no matter if it is the truth or not. One thing they can’t seem to get through their heads is that Huckabee means what he says and he does not make idle statements, just to be sounding good for the public. Sure, he jokes around and all that, but when he says he is not running for VP, he means just that.

I’ll play fair Wickle. I am shocked at the events of yesterday as noted in my post. I felt there was a deal going on in the W.Va case but now I’m just out there. The pundits who say this is Mitt giving Huck the middle finger have it wrong there too imo. i think Mitt is calculating his future. I now think Huck staying in although it benefits McCain is staying in it for his future and beliefs. There will be an interesting story when this is all over regarding all the punditry and “insights” that were wrong.

In2theFray … the difference between you and the people I cited is that you’re honest about it. And that is to your credit. I’ll give you, it looked fishy after West Virginia. I can see why someone would think that.
There are times when I think that Fred Thompson did that in South Carolina. I don’t say it much, because I ultimately think that it was not the case and I hate having to retract.
I also think that you’re right, there should come a time when this is all over when we take a serious look at the polling and the punditry. A whole lot of people have been very, very certain that they knew the truth and turned out to be very, very wrong.

Keeping Alan Keyes at bay? Just like Hillary is keeping Mike Gravel from beating Obama? ;o)

Perhaps now they may say that Huckabee is staying in just to try to prove that he’s not doing what they said he was doing.

I guess that that hadn’t occurred to me. Good point.
But … ummm … now that Romney is backing McCain, it seems like that should put an end to that.
Maybe when Huckabee isn’t offered the VP position it will silence the charges. Of course … if he is, then it’s all over.

Nope, then they’ll just say his conspiracy theory backfired on him and McCain turned his back on him. lol

Someone sent the following to me. I wanted to get it to Mike Huckabee. Maybe you can:
The Constitution has little relevance to the government, but still it’s interesting to note that the crazed John McCain was born, to his state-connected parents, in the Panama Canal Zone. The Zone, the product of US imperialism under the crazed Teddy Roosevelt, was never officially US territory. That is, McCain was born in a foreign country, and therefore not eligible to be president, according to the Constitution.

I appreciate your defense of Mike Huckabee as a sincere presidential candidate. All of this smoke and mirrors and accusations just can’t dent his integrity. He’s in this because of the issues he stands for. I wrote a song about those issues, actually…Please take a moment to watch this:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=ww4aVk_iqAU
The song itself is just a couple of minutes. I hope it inspires you in the issues for which Mike Huckabee stands. I hope you’ll feel free to comment, etc.
Sincerely,
Gary Scharrer

Good food for thought. However, America is sliding down a slope so slippery that it cannot be stopped. The rapture is the next great event. The time for political intervention was yesterday, before our rights were methodically eroded away. Now all you can do as a Christian is to win people to Christ. Politics and our nation will reap the fruit of wickedness. Yes, I love our country. But gents, the end is indeed near. My eyes were opened by a recent read…a new book sweeping across some fundamental circles…”Seven Trumpets”. I found the author’s website (seventrumpets.net), and after really absorbing what he was trying to say, I am convinced we are in an all-out war…not for a new president…but for the souls of end-time men.
It’s here, people. Gird up your loins and prepare for battle. Politics is just the warm-up. The enemy is at hand. Christ is on His way to redeem His people. Where do YOU stand?

I’ll check out the site, but please do bear in mind … Just about every generation has been absolutely certain that the world was going to end in its lifetime. That dates back to about AD 33.
However — you’re ultimately right about priorities. If nothing else, we don’t know whether the next five minutes are the last five minutes that your buddy has. If you plan to witness to him fifteen minutes from now … you let him down. With or without the end of time coming right up, each person’s end of time might be right now.

If Huckabee is offered the VP slot, I hope he turns it down. I’d like to see him assume some prominent role in the media and then run again in 2012.
February 22, 2008 at 8:26 pm
I don’t think it will be offered. McCain needs to solidify the base of the GOP with his VP choice, and Huckabee is even more unpopular with them than McCain is.
But I agree, I’d like to see him run again in 2012.
