A strange thing happened yesterday …

After ChenZhen’s post about conservative talk radio, I listened to Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity yesterday … almost all of each show.

I even listened to part of Michael Savage on my way to the worship team rehearsal.

Something very strange happened while I was listening to Michael Savage — he made more sense than the other three! Usually, the nativist, paranoid egotist can’t go more than a few minutes before I decide that he will never be happy until Joe McCarthy is resurrected and made President for life.  Or maybe McCarthy is a bit too much of a lefty …

A caller started the same normal rant that I heard over and over again on the other three shows (apparently people don’t realize that they’re just saying the same things). It was along the lines of:  “I’m a conservative, and I’ve just decided that I’m voting for Hillary Clinton because she’s more conservative than John McCain.”

Dr. Savage responded with something like, “What are you, stupid? You can’t really be a conservative and say something that stupid.  What about abortion? The war in Iraq? Handgun control?”

He has a point. If John McCain winds up as the nominee, I’m not promising to vote for him. But I do promise that I will never choose a pro-abortion candidate over a pro-lifer. I might go to a third party and find a candidate that I like better, but the way the conversation is going is very silly.

To conservatives who feel that they can’t vote for Huckabee or McCain, I’d encourage you to look at Ron Paul … if that’s still a no, then look to the “third parties.” Glenn Beck spoke to representatives from the Constitution and Prohibition parties yesterday … and while he did this at least partly to make fun of Gene Amondson, I thought it was nice to hear some mention of the fact that these people exist.

Sure, I know that Ann Coulter has said she’d back Clinton against McCain. But I think that I’ve made my opinion of Ann Coulter pretty clear.

There is something fundamentally wrong with the universe when I’m identifying Michael Savage as the voice of reason. Maybe that’s the real “wormhole evidence” for which Glenn Beck was searching.

Yikes! Savage is now the voice of reason? Yeah, think we found the wormhole!

I am shocked at the conservatives sayong they will back Hillary… I have no idea why they won’t go third party if they don;t like the GOP nom. That seems much more reasonable, plus I think if 3rd parties got a high percentage of the vote, it would do more to send the message that people are extremely unhappy.

All of that Hillary nonsense from people assumes she is the nominee. She and Obama are almost tied in delegates. I wouldn’t be suprised if the Dems are heading to a brokered convention.

In 2000, I actually voted for Ralph Nader because I thought that a Gore vs. Bush race would result in such a low turnout that the Greens might actually break 5% and become a real force in future races.

That’s the one time I’ve ever voted for someone I didn’t actually want to win.

On the other hand, if people are mad at the parties, they should do just that. Voting for Democrats strengthens the Democrats. The Libertarian Party, Constitution Party, and such deserve some attention.

Ah, well … People get stuck into this flawed one-or-the-other logic, and and it’s terrible for the republic.

I occasionally catch Savage as I flip stations. It is funny how in the midst of his bizarre rants he can come up with statements that are almost prophetic.
