Romney’s Arrogance and Endorsement

Since I’ve been linking to this all over WordPress, I figure that I might as well post it myself.

Major hat tip to Bill Garcia of NJ Christians for Huckabee:

Apparently, Mitt Romney thinks that the Mike Huckabee campaign is done. Or, at least, he’s wishing it to be so. He’s spent dozens of times the amount that Huckabee has, and he can’t seem to get more people liking him.  It’s almost like people think he’s a slick political hack who changes his political positions with the wind.

Funny how that works …

On the other hand, he picked up an endorsement from Daily Kos. That’s bound to help him.

I’m not sure exactly what to make of that. I’ll probably say more about it later.

I know you support Huck. I use to think I could be ok with him as pres. - I would have voted for him over Clinton. I would be considered a liberal dem. But, I like Mike as a peson. He seems genuine. But, his comments about wife submission to the husband is hilarious. He lost me. Also, his debate comment: “The Gates of Hell”. Well, that did it.
There is no way. He has sold off too much to the far right. He won’t find his way back, unless it’s rigged, and if it’s going to be rigged, it will be rigged for Romney or Clinton.

Sigh … it is worth knowing that Biblical “submission” and the secular interpretation of those words don’t match up. There’s nothing dominating about it.

Of course, that you would even bring up the prospect of a rigged election is a bit far-fetched.

I wouldn’t call it arrogance that Mitt sees Huck as a legit threat. Of the polling tier of the GOP it seems reasonable that Huck v Mitt is logical on both sides.

  4. wickle Says:

That isn’t what he said, though. What he said is that Huckabee isn’t winning anything else. Romney has been trying to dismiss Huckabee since the beginning. Over and over again he says that Huckabee doesn’t have the money to be a serious contender, and now he’s declaring the Huckabee candidacy over.

    That, I would call arrogance.

I’m confused about the Daily Kos thing … that looks more like a slap in the face for Romney than an endorsement. Am I missing something?

  6. wickle Says:

Not really … to be perfectly honest, I shouldn’t have mentioned it.

Kos said that people should vote for Romney. To that extent, it’s like an endorsement.

In truth, Kos just wants all of the Republicans to keep spending money beating each other up, and he wants to make sure that Romney stays in. Kos wants to be a jerk, basically. A combination of playing games with the votes and payback for some Republican shenanigans in years past.

No, it isn’t really an endorsement (the banner “Because Republicans deserve the very worst” says just about how he really feels).

I think Romney seems to think if he says Huckabee doesn’t have a chance enough, people will believe it and thus weaken the support for Huckabee (those who instead of voting their perfered candidate, vote for who they think is a winner - which I find nuts). I do not think it will work, however.

And I will say that, even though I am not a supporter of Huckabee, I would consider voting for him if he got the nomination - that is something I can not say about Romney… And I know a lot of other people who feel the same way.

Romney is just too desperate and trash talking about Mike to get the attention off himself. At this point, he’s just really not sure WHAT to do - if he starts going after Thompson, then you know he’s gasping for air..

    ..and thanks for the plug!
    Many Blessings,
    Bill

Tam - Romney reminds me of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz. If he taps his ruby slippers together and says “there’s no place like the White House” enough times that he’ll get to be President.

We’ve been seeing his ads here in Michigan for a very brief time (compared to Iowa) … I have a new found respect (and sympathy) for the citizens of Iowa.

  10. tam Says:

LOL - OneMom. I like the comparison to Dorothy!

Thanks you for the new found respect and sympathy for residents of Iowa. It was wild here for awhile. The ads were one thing… but the calls and visits… I could tell you horror stories!

I know you had issues with Ron Paul callers (which I hope was resolved)… we had the same with Hillary and Romney.

I counted myself very, very lucky that I live in the middle of nowhere and not easy to find, or I would have had the visits too

  11. wickle Says:

I think that OneMom has got it … the Dorothy image is perfect!

  12. Mike Says:

I don’t think Romney is showing arrogance here. It’s probably that he views Huckabee as a legitimate threat. Huck did beat him pretty good in Iowa, and losing isn’t something that normally brings out one’s arrogant side.

As for Kos, I think they’re underestimating Romney just as many Republicans and liberals are underestimating Huckabee. I wouldn’t call either approach wise.

Left out one part of my comment. I agree with in2thefray.
