Bill Richardson withdraws
January 11, 2008 — wickleI didn’t really expect that, after his declarations after the NH primary.
But, apparently, he has decided to withdraw from his bid for the Democratic nomination.
This is a bit disappointing … frankly, I thought that he was the only Democrat remotely capable of being a President, and certainly the best qualified (his rivals had been Chris Dodd and Joe Biden). The best-qualified Democrat is now, probably, Dennis Kucinich. The celebrities have nothing like his experience or ability.

He’d make an excellent VP choice, in the very least.

The best of the Democrats were always marginized due to lacking the big name or “charisma”.

I thought Biden was better qualified than Richardson, although Biden is so in favor of big government that I would never want him in.
Iowa’s Democratic caucuses are very un-democratic in that if you have less than 15% of the vote in a precinct your supporters either leave or go to another candidate. You could feasibly have 14% of the vote in every single precinct in Iowa and register 0% support. I think Biden and Dodd definitely had more than 1% support in Iowa, and Richardson more than 2%.
