Romney wins Wyoming

In an event that seems to be getting VERY little interest anywhere, Wyoming held its GOP caucus today, which shows a win for Mitt Romney, second for Fred Thompson, and third for Duncan Hunter. The rest of the field is tied at last.

It’s difficult to say what this is going to mean for anywhere else. It certainly seems to have attracted virtually no attention. I doubt this does much for momentum for anyone, but it seemed worthy of mention.

I’m in the Washington Post

So much for my anonymity, but I’m too excited not to share …

Joel Achenbach included me in his blog. I’m Ken Leonard, quoted near the end. (I also helped him figure out that Mama Rocks! and Gov. Huckabee were playing “Mustang Sally” while we spoke.)
I haven’t yet read the whole piece, but I did read about Henniker. By  the way, Eagle didn’t get her kiss …

On the way to Henniker

I had my little voice recorder with me to take notes at the rally … unfortunately, I left it in the car as I went to the gymnasium. (Oops.)

However, I did keep a tally of yard signs that I saw along the way. I didn’t start until I left my neighborhood, so I didn’t count my Huckabee sign (the only sign in my neighborhood — unless you count the house about half a mile away which has two Huckabee yard signs and a banner on the garage).

I will say that I wish I’d done the same thing on the way back. When I went through Concord, I saw a lot more signs. But since I’d put the recorder away, I didn’t even try to count. In Concord, though, I saw a great many Duncan Hunter and Mike Huckabee signs, as well as some terrible John Edwards signs with red writing that you can’t read unless you’re stopped beside them (”The fight for the middle class is on,” I think they said.). I also saw a stretch of about half a mile that had alternating Duncan Hunter and Mike Huckabee signs. Apparently someone was very committed, but wasn’t sure to whom.

I also saw a Bill Richardson sign in Concord, which might be the first one I’ve seen yet.

However, everything above is unofficial. I don’t have numbers.

This is what I saw driving from Farmington to Henniker, in NH: Read the rest of this entry »

Thank you, Iowans (Updated)

After a brief perusal of a few sites, I think that I would like to put out a positive message to Iowans.

A huge number of people showed up to speak their minds the other night, to participate in the caucuses. In return for that, they’re being called corrupt, they’re being accused of stealing votes, of not thinking; of running on emotion without thinking. On my way to Henniker yesterday, I was listening to Limbaugh’s show, and a caller was furious with Iowans for voting for Mike Huckabee, and said that they were doing it out of pure emotion. Limbaugh encouraged such thinking. One of the comments on my own blog derides Iowa as a state full of welfare queens. Read the rest of this entry »

Mike Huckabee in Henniker

Mike and Janet Huckabee, along with Chuck and Gina Norris, appeared at New England College ths evening.

Would you like to know the difference between being a longshot second-tier candidate and the winner of the Iowa caucus? There were rows of TV cameras, about a dozen wandering reporters, and huge amounts of attention. I was approached by the Washington Post, ABC, Reuters, and Avisen (the Danish press).

The doors had opened at 3:15, but I didn’t get there until a little after 3:30. This violates my usual time guideline of “be there half an hour before any civilized person would arrive,” but I had laundry to get started before I left the house. Read the rest of this entry »
