Other events of last night

I wasn’t sure whether I wanted to post this, because it gets a little more specific about exactly where I am than I usually get. But, I might be going by my real name here in a little bit, based on several events of this evening (at Mike Huckabee’s appearance at New England College, I was interviewed by four different news outlets … I’ll link to them if I find anything for real, but that might break my anonymity).

Anyway … last night, at about 1:30 local, I was wrapping up my blogging for the night and was thinking about either doing that blogroll wrap-up (which One Mom did, linked elsewhere) or going to bed. Instead, my family was evacuated from our home by the police department.

Here’s a brief story about it.

Here’s one from one of our local papers.

We live on the Cherub Drive in Farmington mentioned in the stories. We were evacuated and heard some interesting sounds all night … including explosions that we assume were the flash grenades. There are interesting foot trails all through the snow in our front yard. We have a pretty good idea how surrounded the target house was.

My wife, the baby, and I sat in the car for about four hours waiting for the standoff to end. We really couldn’t go anywhere, since we live near the end of a dead-end road and were told we could only go toward the dead-end direction. I started to ask if we could go the other way and get to my parents’ house, but the officer said something like, “We don’t want you to get in the way of the SWAT team.”

At that point, “Okay, Officer,” sounded like the way to go. I have no desire to get in a SWAT team’s way.

I therefore went to bed at 5am.

I do have to say, though, my little Eagle was a sweetheart about it — as usual. She is the best baby in the world, and I’m not just saying that. (She takes after her mother, I can tell you!)

When I picked up my baby bird, who was sleeping happily, she barely grunted at me. She looked up, stretched, and actually smiled while I was putting her in the car seat. I don’t think I deserved a smile for that one …

Neither of her brothers would have been so agreeable. Then again, neither of her brothers was sleeping through the night since they were one month old, either …
