On dropping out …

It occurs to me that the many critics of Mike Huckabee have been telling him to drop out since last summer. He didn’t have the money, the name recognition, the … whatever.

Now, those same people are … well, … still saying the same thing.

I can see the point that some people are trying to make, that NOW it’s really time to get behind one conservative candidate. The problems are: Read the rest of this entry »

Mike Huckabee on NPR

As I was on the way to the church this evening, I head Mike Huckabee on the radio, it was a pretty good, if short, interview about the “two man race” for the GOP nomination.

“It’s only a two-person race if the national media tries to pick the president for the people. It’s absurd to let this become a play-yard shouting match between John McCain and Mitt Romney,” Huckabee tells Michele Norris. Read the rest of this entry »

Christian Carnival CCIX

Last night, the 209th Christian Carnival was posted at Everyday Liturgy.

As always, I would encourage you to check it out. It looks like there’s some great stuff there.

Poor Mitt …

To be fair, I haven’t heard this from the official Romney campaign, but I’ve heard it from a number of Gov. Romney’s supporters, including Glenn Beck this morning.

Whine, whine, whine, whine, whine … Read the rest of this entry »

From Mike Huckabee

Our focus turns now to Super Tuesday.  Recent polling shows us in first or tied for first place in Georgia, Arkansas, Alabama, Missouri, Tennessee and Oklahoma.  Voters in these states will have a chance to reclaim the nominating process for conservatives by casting their votes in support of our campaign. And in the states where poll after poll has shown us in second or third, please spread the word that we are still standing and we have what it takes to win.

Because if I am a Republican voter in a state casting votes next week on Super Tuesday, I am asking two fundamental questions:  Read the rest of this entry »

Florida Results

On New Year’s Day, I was listening to the Capitol Steps, and their song “McCain’s Campaign Is Plainly In the Drain” (to the tune of “The Rain in Spain Stays Mainly in the Plain” from “My Fair Lady”).

I think they might have been a bit premature in that assessment.

I had previously called for a McCain win, but narrowly. With 74% reporting, that lead is 5 points — McCain has 36% to Romney’s 31%. That exceeds the spread I had predicted, if the numbers stay that way. Read the rest of this entry »

The madness of Ann Coulter

One of my favorite fellow bloggers once referred to Ann Coulter as “the worst thing to happen to the Republican Party since Watergate.”

I agree completely. A real-life friend of mine has remarked that he really can’t talk about Ann Coulter with me. I get that her whole column is about trying to irritate people. I understand that completely. THAT is exactly my problem with her. Her column isn’t about persuasion or argument, it’s about beligerence and irritation. It bothers me that that passes itself off as worthwhile writing. Read the rest of this entry »

Fun with the State of the Union

I said in my previous post that I wasn’t going to make fun of the President, since I thought that he did give a pretty good speech (for his standards).

However, my wife and I were having some fun with his pronunciation of certain words. We all know about his inability to pronounce “nuclear,” even he’s made fun of it before.

He’s very proud of some place called “Amerca,” wherever that is.

He made mention of some place called “Zimbawe,” which I assume was supposed to have been Zimbabwe. This led my wife and me to think of things we’d stick in Bush speeches if we were on his speech writing staff. Read the rest of this entry »

President Bush’s Final State of the Union Address

For one thing, my wife and I were sitting around a crackling radio (lousy reception in our area) listening to NPR … that’s something. For those of us with nostalgic streaks, that was a nice thing.

Check out the transcript here.

President Bush opened by talking about the challenges over the past seven years, and mentioned that it is an election year (just in case you hadn’t noticed). He encouraged cooperation between the parties and mentioned that what they do will be important for years to come. Read the rest of this entry »

Lionel Cartwright is BACK!

Perhaps you don’t know who Lionel Cartwright is. That’s too bad. You should find out.

“Give Me His Last Chance” was my favorite song for a very long time. I was an am a fan of his music. In fact, the title of this blog comes from one of his songs, the 1990 great “True Believer,” off the wonderful album “I Watched It On My Radio.”

Anyway … Lionel Cartwright has a new song available for purchase, a mere $1 on his website. It’s called “Soldier.”

You should buy it. You’ll be happy that you did.

I’ll review it once I’ve actually listened to it more than once.
