Reaction to the Hillary Clinton campaign hostage situation

In case you haven’t heard, Hillary Clinton’s campaign office in Rochester, NH was invaded by a man claiming to have a bomb, and he took several volunteers hostage for about five hours.

The situation finally ended when Leeland Eisenberg released the hostages and surrendered to police.

Thankfully, no one was hurt. The Rochester Police Department and Captain Paul Callaghan handled things wonderfully, kept order, and resolved the situation without letting it get any worse.

Hillary Clinton is apparently getting on a plane any minute now to come to NH and thank her campaign staff and the police for their handling of the situation.

I have to say that this is exactly what she should do.

But the real reason that I’m posting this is a call that I heard on Sean Hannity’s show this afternoon. While Hannity was giving an update on the situation, he took a call from someone who began by saying that Clinton has been caught planting questions in “town hall” meetings, and he wouldn’t be surprised if she staged the whole hostage situation.

I admit, I was hoping that Hannity would hang up on the guy before he got that far.

He did answer, to his credit, that he wouldn’t believe that in a million years.

I have a simple bit of advice to anyone whose immediate reaction to the news was so cynical and suspicious as to think that Clinton would have staged it:

Stop following politics.

Clearly, you have become too full of hatred. You have gone beyond discerning and have come to the point that you hate your opponents more, probably, than you love your own cause.

Get a new hobby. Collect stamps. Take up fishing. Buy a set of watercolors. Read fantasy novels. Build those really cool ships in bottles.

Anything but politics.

I have to give Hannity credit, he shut the guy down and moved on. I might have liked a stronger response (the “get off the phone, you big dope” message might have been in order), but it was good enough.

To that caller — I suggest that you become familiar with the three “B”’s of classical music. Brahms, Bach, and Beethoven are very relaxing.

People are nuts! I have also been hearing “theories” that is was another candiate’s supporter…

I like the suggestion to read a fantasy book… I can suggest serveral.

As someone who see Hillary as power-hungry and manipulative, I am in full agreement on this one. And I also don’t think she had anything to do directly with the General at the GOP debate.

However, she does have quite a number of political back-alley types working on her behalf. If Guiliani is the GOP nominee, rest assured the unofficial campaign will be ‘wronged woman vs. cheating man’, not any real issue.

BTW: I like your candidate but I have some disagreements on issues with him. However, Huckabee has been a far more effective campaigner than my man Fred. Any of them (except Paul) would be far better than anyone on the other side of the aisle.

First of all … this guy happens to be known in Rochester. I don’t think that he’s any campaign’s supporter. If he is, frankly, he’s as likely to think he’s supporting Barry Goldwater, George McGovern, Josiah Bartlet, or Elmo.

Let’s just say … he has issues.

Anyway … thanks. I’ll take this as symbolic that at least the reasonable members of the Huckabee, Paul, and Thompson campaigns are in the non-conspiracy camp.

And mopenshaw … thanks. I agree, there is very little that’s beneath the Clintons. But I think that a bomb threat is on that short list.

I think you’re probably right about the Gen. Kerr. Until proven otherwise, I’ll blame him and CNN.

And, yes, I think that Giuliani would be destroyed by the Clinton agitprop machine. Frankly, rightly so … I think he’s as bad as any of the Democrats.

I wish I could return the courtesy and say that I like Thompson more than I do. He’s acceptable on most positions to me, but I don’t like the way he’s running his campaign. Still, I’d vote for him if he got the GOP nod.
