Apology re: Comments

Generally, I have allowed comments on this blog without approval, because that’s the way that I think conversation should go.

But having had to delete 14 comments by Ron Paul devotees offended by my reading one of his campaign mailings, I’ve had to change this temporarily. Hopefully, they’ll wander on to some other blog, news site, or online casino later.

For those who wish to comment: I hit “Delete” when I see profanity or excessive insulting … frankly, that’s unless you make yourself look so stupid that I think you deserve to be posted. If you would like to discuss things intelligently, go for it. But I have no intention of reading “Go, Ron, Go!” 10,000 times, nor posting profane speculation about my family lineage.

I know that there is a difference between Ron Paul spammers and thoughtful Ron Paul supporters. I invite that latter. The former can expect their comments to vanish.

I guess I should feel honored. I’ve never been Ron Paul spammed before.

    Ok! I got it.

Did you ever try a ‘Tit-for-Tat’?

I’m assuming that you’re not actually talking game theory and the prisoner’s dilemma, and are going for more of a petty and childish exchange of bickering comments.

Yes, I’ve been in them. I like to think that I’ve outgrown that phase.

I’m curious as to why you believe Mike Huckabee would make a good president. I don’t disagree that he is a pretty decent guy, he is my former Gov. But personally, I don’t think that follows that he is qualified to be President. Arkansas is not such a big place or has that many problems to deal with. Bill Clinton had a little more experience and was a much better talker than Huckabee is and look at the trouble he landed himself and those around him in. I’ll be frank and say he did not do much as Gov. except keep himself in the good graces of the news media and I fail to see how that qualifies him for anything. On the other hand, I do agree that he is much better than several others out there.

EDIT (Wickle) - I’m glad that you asked!

I spell out my case for Mike Huckabee in most of my posts, and I think I lay it out pretty well here:

From a UK point of view Clinton and Obama seem to be the big names. In a country that seems so beholden to celebrity, that’s a big deal.

If Mike Huckabee gets the GOP nomination and storms into the Presidency I think a lot of us on the other side of the pond will have to change our views about US voters.

For the most part, I have had very few comments that I have had to delete. I moderate all first time comments on my blog and so far, so good. I do have one Ron Paul supporter who frequents my blog and she has been very respectful, even though we disagree on a number of issues.

The problem I have is some of the comments simply make no sense. It’s as if some of them just write anything in the box that they can think of and it doesn’t necessarily have to have anything to do with the topic.

  7. tam Says:

Thanks Larry (yes, I am the Ron paul supporter he refers to, at least I think I am). The random posting annoys me too… if someone wants to comment on a topic… make it actually resond to the original post (or another comment) in a meaniful way, show respect, and be reseaonable… mazing that it seems to much to ask that of people…

  8. wickle Says:

Yes, Tam, I’ve enjoyed your comments and your blog.

I would like to think that you represent the majority of Paul’s supporters and that it’s a vocal (very vocal!) minority that is causing all the trouble.

  9. Larry Says:

Yes, Tam. You are the one I was speaking of.
