A Man of Real Faith

When we look at what we want in a President, there has been talk about what “faith” should mean … and a lot of people (especially in light of the Mormon controversy) came back with a nebulous “we want a person who has faith, though what that faith is is unimportant” kind of nonsense.

Not I.

I want a believer in the God who made the world out of nothing.

I want someone who believes that he is a sinner saved by grace, and who knows that everything he or she has is a gift from God. Given that the breath I just took was a gift and could have been denied, I want someone who shares that value.

I want someone who isn’t afraid to say that God told us what the world should look like, and we’re going to do our part to make it look that way. We were given stewardship of the world back on the 6th day of Creation. Let’s act like it.

That brings me back to Governor — and former pastor — Mike Huckabee.

His blog today tells a little something about his values and his beliefs. His life leading up to today says that this isn’t something he wrote to appeal to “values voters.” It’s something that he means.

Gov. Huckabee is a true believer, a man that I would love to see as our President — not a calculating political hack who knows that “God talk” will help him win some voters. He talks about God because he believes in and knows Him.

Here’s a sermon he delivered back in July:

Confession From the New York Times

The NYT gave MoveOn.org the standby rate for its attack ad on General Petraeus, which amounts to a $77,000 contribution. MoveOn is apparently sending along the extra money, which does nothing to change the fact that the situation came up in the first place …

Of course, in the article Clark Hoyt is quoted as referring to a cottage industry calling the NYT a bastion of liberal media.

In light of the incident, I dare him to prove them wrong.

A bit of fun …

… and, yes, it’s at Hillary Clinton’s expense. Oh, well.

In working on my “working the field” series, I asked my brothers if either of them could contribute anything positive to say about Hillary Clinton. My older brother put forward two helpful suggestions:

That I know of, Hillary has never set off a nuclear device in my neighborhood or eaten the last member of an endangered species.  Now, I may be wrong on the last one, so someone might need to check it out.

Not an hour after reading this e-mail, I heard a story on the radio that a species of river dolphin thought to be extinct  has been spotted.

In light of his e-mail, I wondered whether the New York Senator would be offering baiji at her next $1000-per-plate fundraiser.

A great interview from Baptist Press

I’m not going to cite the whole thing here, but here and here are links that will bring you to the recent interview Baptist Press had with Mike Huckabee …

I’m pleased to say that he’s a true believer in the political and religious  aspects of his life, and that brings them together in one coherent package.

Welcome to Vertical Day

Little Rock, AR – Former Arkansas Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee will host an historic 24-hour online “conversation” with voters called “Vertical Day, starting at 10 a.m. CT / 11 a.m. ET on Monday, Sept. 24 and ending at 10 a.m. CT / 11 a.m. ET on Tuesday, Sept. 25, it was announced today.

To officially kick-off the special event, Huckabee will host a live web-cast for bloggers and interested media at 11 a.m. CT / 12 Noon ET. (RSVP details below.)

The goal of “Vertical Day” is to focus on the issues in order to attract a large wave of potential supporters to the campaign website (www.mikehuckabee.com) over a 24-hour period. An emphasis will be placed on building new online support, energizing the campaign’s base of existing support, and identifying the people most likely to participate in the first wave of the actual get-out-the-vote efforts on the ground.
Components of Vertical Day include: blog posts, video clips of Huckabee on the issues and clips of Huckabee answering questions from bloggers.

“The focus of Vertical Day will be a discussion of the most important challenges facing America ,” said Huckabee. “I’m excited about this opportunity to reach thousands of voters across America – and to build excitement around this discussion of these ideas, the solutions we see possible, and our hopes for America .”

To participate, please R.S.V.P. to alice.stewart@explorehuckabee.com or kirsten@fedewaconsulting.com by 10 a.m. CT / 11 a.m. ET on Monday, Sept 24.

This is Mike Huckabee on Vertical Day, from his own blog entry of 9-22:

Everywhere I go on the campaign trail, I meet voters with a real thirst for a healthy discussion of the issues. Ultimately, people don’t care whether an issue comes from the left or the right. What they want to talk about are ideas that lift America up and make us better. It’s what I call “Vertical Politics.”

On Monday, our campaign has set aside 24 hours, for what we are calling a “Vertical Day”. The focus of Vertical Day will be a discussion of the most important issues facing America. The plan is to promote my positions on these issues through video and personal blogs, and to have an online conversation with voters about our ideas, the solutions we see possible, our hopes for America and the challenges we face.

I’d like you to be a part of Vertical Day. I encourage you to tell your friends, family members and co-workers about it and ask them to participate. Vertical Day will start on Monday, September 24 and end on Tuesday, Sept. 25. I’m excited about this opportunity. With your help, and the power of the Internet, we will be able to involve thousands of voters all across America and truly build excitement around this discussion of issues.

To encourage you to make the time to be a part of Vertical Day, my campaign team has put together an incentive package that I hope will be fun and also create buzz and excitement. First, we’ve created a special Vertical Day page on our website, where you can view the 24 hours of online content we have pulled together.

We also have created a very simple online tool that will give you the ability to promote Vertical Day to your friends, family members and co-workers. We’ve developed a package of rewards based upon the number of people you are able to get to visit the website.  As a way to cap off Vertical Day, we’ll enter the names of each of our top promoters into a raffle. On Tuesday, September 25 at 3 p.m., we will draw two names who will receive special invitations to be my personal guests to the YouTube Debate on November 28 in St. Petersburg, FL.

I will have more details for you soon. In the meantime, please mark Monday, Sept. 24 down on your calendars.
