MIKE HUCKABEE TRIUMPHS AT VALUES VOTER DEBATE

Former Arkansas Governor Wins with 63% of Vote

Little Rock, AR – Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was the clear winner of last night’s Values Voter Presidential Debate, winning with a sweeping 63% of the vote.

“We won huge,” said Huckabee after the votes were in. “I’m pleased, and proud, and honored to have this historic endorsement from America ’s leading social conservatives who believe, as I do, in the core values which define American culture and life.  This overwhelming vote affirms that conservatives are coalescing around one candidate and that candidate is me. Together, we will prevail.”

Huckabee came in a strong first place with 219 votes, garnering more votes than all of the other candidates’ votes combined.  Ron Paul was a distant second-place, with 44 votes; Sam Brownback and Fred Thompson came in fourth and fifth, with 18 and 15 respectively.

The poll included 340 delegates who were hand-selected by 40 of America ’s social activists and opinion-makers.

The debate, held at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida , was organized by Phyllis Schlafly, Paul Weyrich, Don Wildmon, Matt Staver, Rick Scarborough, and Janet Folger.

The field …

I’ve been doing some looking, and I’ve identified 88 candidates worthy of mention as running for President in the 2008 race.

I haven’t yet culled the names which I’m going to list as independents, there is a possibility that some of these aren’t real candidates. (I have to admit, some of this list came from Wikipedia — people may well have listed themselves.) My intent is to read at least SOMETHING about each of them, and run some kind of a summary profile here. Of course, that’s 88 candidates, and I don’t seem to have any staff or interns. I make no promises about how much time I’ll spend on Earl Dodge of the Prohibition Party, for example.

Here’s my list so far:

Among Republicans — Mike Huckabee (who, as I’ve mentioned, is my guy), Mitt Romney, John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Duncan Hunter, Ron Paul, Sam Brownback,  Tom Tancredo, Alan Keyes, Fred Thompson, and maybe Newt Gingrich.

Among Democrats — Joe Biden, Christopher Dodd, Bill Richardson, Barack Obama, Dennis Kucinich, Hillary Clinton, John Edwards, Mike Gravel, and maybe Al Gore.

For the Constitution Party (formerly US Taxpayers Party) — Don Grundmann and Bryan Malatesta (by the way, keep an eye here to see if Alan Keyes or Ron Paul makes moves toward these folks)

For the Green Party — Elaine Brown, Jerry Kann, Kent Mesplay, Kat Swift, Rebecca Rotzler, Jared Ball, Jesse Johnson, Paul Kangas, Gail Parker, and maybe Ralph Nader or Cynthia McKinney

For the Libertarian Party –  Daniel Imperato, Mike Jingozian, Bob Jackson, Steve Kubby, Alden Link, George Phillies, Christine Smith, Wayne Allen Root, Robert Milnes, Barry Hess, Karen Kwiatkowski, Mary Ruwart, Ed Thompson.

For the Prohibition Party (yes, we still have one!) — Gene Amondson  and Earl Dodge

For the US Socialist Party — Stewart A. Alexander, Eric Chester, David Frey, Norma J. F. Harrison, Stanley Hetz, Brian Moore, Tino Rozzo, Dwight Welch

… and that brings us to the independents — Ruth Bryant White, Lanakila Washington, Michael Tienken, Ben Thompson, Joe Schriner, Arthur Regan, Blake Ashby,  Don Cordell, Jon A. Greenpon, Donald K. Allen, David Koch, Brad Lord-Leutwyler, Charles T. Maxham, James H. McCall, David J. Masters, Steve Adams, Richard H. Clark, John Taylor Bowles, Bennie Lee Ferguson, Arnold Jones, Frank McEnulty, Michael Moriarty, Frank Moore, Steve Kissing, Mark B. Graham, Orion Karl Daley, Terry Barkdull, Bob W. Hargis, Thomas J. Kozee, Jr.; and maybe Sam Nunn and Michael Bloomberg. And, worthy of note, Jonathan “The Impaler” Sharkey. I have to admit, I’m intrigued.

The Reform Party and New Alliance Party appear not to be in any condition to put forward any candidates … gee, what a shame …

One of my complaints has been that major media outlets, even those that boast of being outside the mainstream, have focused only on those who have been dubbed “front-runners,” notably this is something done by those very press outlets.

This will be fun, I think.

Most frivolous lawsuit ever …

A Nebraska state senator is filing a lawsuit against God.It’s supposedly some kind of a stunt to highlight the problem of frivolous lawsuits. The way the complaint is worded, it also highlights a fundamental problem in human thinking — the idea that we have any business telling God the way the world should be working. He complains of terrible threats that God makes against humanity, of killing without remorse, and other prattle

To argue this case, I cite only Job 38-42. If you need to look that up, feel free to use the link to Bible Gateway down on the side.

To sum it up very quickly, I choose a few verses (all taken from the NIV):

Job 38:2-5 “Who is this that darkens My counsel with words without knowledge? Brace yourself like a man; I will question you, and you shall answer Me. Where were you when I laid the earth’s foundation? Tell Me, if you understand. Who marked off its dimensions? Surely you know! Who stretched a measuring line across it?”

Job 40:8 “Would you discredit My justice? Would you condemn Me to justify yourself?”

Job 40:11 “Who has a claim against me that I must pay? Everything under heaven belongs to Me.”

I know … this isn’t Sen. Chambers’ plan. He doesn’t really plan to make this case, he just wants to prove how stupid it is. My problem is, he made these charges against God, whether he was kidding or not.

Moreover, there are people who do make these kinds of arguments. They hold it against God that bad things happen in the world. It is important to know that it’s God’s world. Nothing happens without His will … and when we think He’s out of line or when we think He isn’t fair, or when we think He’s done us wrong, what that means is that we need to take some time and reassess our own priorities. Something is wrong with how we’re seeing the world, and we need to get our hearts in line with His.
